About the Artist

Joelle Bilisari

Sculpted Textile & Mixed Media

Joelle Bilisari in her studio

Joelle Bilisari, born in France, has spent most of her life on the Pacific Coast, but now lives in Louisville, Kentucky. She is a contemporary textile artist whose work transforms fabric into sculptural expressions of movement, texture, and form. Through carefully layered, folded, and hand-shaped textiles, she creates pieces that invite viewers to slow down, observe, and experience textile in a different form.

Rather than treating textiles as a decorative surface, she approaches fabric as a sculptural material capable of conveying motion, balance, and transformation. Through repetition, intricate folding techniques, and thoughtful composition, she creates works that evoke curiosity and encourage personal interpretation.

Her work has been exhibited in curated collections and art competitions. Her contemporary approach to textile art reflects a commitment to innovation while honoring the timeless qualities of traditional fiber techniques. Whether creating intimate wall pieces or freestanding sculptural forms, her art celebrates the expressive possibilities of fabric.

The Practice

Fabric Art Creation's studio practice is rooted in a deep engagement with textile traditions, draping, folding, and pinning, reimagined through a sculptural lens. Her works occupy the space between painting and sculpture, often wall-mounted yet fully three-dimensional, inviting the viewer to consider depth, shadow, and surface simultaneously. For a textile artist, fabric is more than a material, it is a living medium.

I am interested in what fabric can evoke through different techniques and creativity. Every fold is a decision. Every crease, a history.
